Mythology- Polyphemus and the Flower Myths

Hello my little Bambis'. Now that we have successfully completed our anthologies..(Kudos to all of you who were brave enough to muster up the courage to perform them) We can embark on a lovely journey into mythology. This is one of my favorite units to teach. You will be doing alot of writing (as always) but we will also be completing a variety of projects on the subject as well. I am posting various links on the blog this week in order to facilitate learning. Your first paper on the subject will be due on Wednesday for 5th period and Thursday for 2nd period. You will be completing (first draft) of a comparative analysis paper. Do not be scared all that means is you will be writing a formal compare and contrast paper. Below you will find a link to Ovid's Metamorphoses. These are the same myths we have read in class but from a differerent writer's perspective. Read Ovid's versions carefully.Pick one of the myths to write your paper on. Regardless you are responsible for reading all of the myths. Take brainstorming notes comparing the two different versions. That will be the framework for your paper. Create an outline to organize your thoughts then write the paper which should run anywhere from 2-3 pages typed. I am also placing a link on step by step instructions on how to write a comparitive analysis (I will review in class as well)

Here are your links:

My Little Bambis' In Headlights :)

Guys I was beyond impressed with your anthologies! It shows me what talented kids you really are! Remember we are now entering "phase 2" You are to edit your poems after critiques from your peers and re-type them. You will then pick your best piece and memorize it. You will perform it in class not next class but the following. Please bring your copy of Edith Hamilton's Mythology to class. I will give you an intro to mythology. You will really enjoy it! Special shout out to Chris Delgado.."The Cuban Dr. Seuss" You had us all laughing our tushies off Thanks KUDOS to you. PS here is the web link you guys requested me to post:) Have a stellar evening!

Hey kids,

First and foremost, I have to tell you guys just how proud I am of the work you have done in reference to your poetry explications. You have all gone above and beyond my expectations! I know it is very difficult, but I am laying the foundation for greatness :) Above you will find the link to the free e-text of the Spoon River Anthology which is the complete collection of poems that Edgar Lee Maters wrote, based upon the collection of headstones (graves) he discovered. Take a look at the different poems because in the very near future, you will be writing a mini-anthology of your own! I will explain it in class. Remember your homework is to emulate the writing of Mr. Masters using one of the names on the flag by the auditorium. If you are still having problems with the poetry..please e-mail me...leave me a note in class..or you can make an appointment to see me during lunch or after school. I am here to help you as much as I can.

Love,

Miss G.

PS Here are some HS students performing some of the poems
